At Horsham Downs School, we do not have a school bus service and rely on parents/carers to ensure their children get to and from school safely.
The majority of students are transported in cars. This makes for a very busy carpark and drivers are asked to take particular care around the school. Cars should never be left unattended in the Drop-Off zone between the hours of 8.30 am-9.30 am and 2.30 am-3.30 pm. All drivers should adhere to parking restrictions and yellow lines in and around the school and take particular care when reversing out of a parking bay.
Carpark safety can be improved simply by staggering your drop off and pick up times outside of peak periods.
Cycling and Walking
There is a safe cycling/walking path on Osborne Road and a future extension is planned along Resolution Drive.
All children riding bikes to school should have a good knowledge of the road rules and are legally required to wear cycle helmets. NZ Police recommend that children under the age of 10 should not ride on the road unless accompanied by an adult riding with them. The school recommends that younger children cycling or walking are accompanied by an older child or adult.
School Transport Assistance
Some families may be eligible for school transport assistance from the Ministry of Education.
To be eligible, a student attending Horsham Downs School must live more than 3.2 km from their nearest appropriate school, and suitable public transport is not available anywhere between the student's home and their nearest school.
An application form is available from the school office.
